Rebecca and Chris had arranged for their Derbyshire engagement photography session to take place at Shipley Country Park.

We were extremely lucky with the weather, as on the previous day we were having torrential downpours. This was very evident by the extremely muddy path that led to the farm. The shoot would have been very different if the weather had been the same on this day!

The main focus of their engagement shoot was to be the Highland cattle herd that resided there on an adjacent farm. These cows were pretty special to Rebecca as she grew up on a farm with cows.

Chris had arranged with a farmer to meet us there in the morning and guide us to where these extraordinary cows would be grazing.

The one thing that I had been warned about prior to the shoot was about wearing appropriate footwear. In fact it had been stressed that wellies were highly recommended. The only problem was, I don’t own a pair of wellies. So I put on wore what I assumed to be the next best thing…walking shoes. As soon as we met the farmer he looked at my feet and said “ah”! I was quick to reassure him that I was fully prepared to take on any responsibility for muddy shoes, socks and trousers!

It didn’t take long to find the cows once we had reached the field. There were a few of them grazing at the near side as we ducked under the electric wired fencing. The challenge was to gain a good vantage point in order to get some good photos with Rebecca and Chris in the foreground and some of the cows in the background. To begin with the cows decided to take us for a walk around the fields for a couple of laps and once my shoes were well and truly filled with mud, the farmer told us that we had to get round in front of the cows or else we’d be chasing them all day!

So we did and it worked. Once we got in front of them a couple of times they got used to us and started to graze with us standing close by. I managed to get a few good shots before feeling that we really should leave before overstaying our welcome!

Rebecca and Chris are having their wedding celebrations at The West Mill in Derbyshire later this year.

If you are interested in having a Derbyshire engagement photography session and think that you like my style of photography, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to chatting with you!
