I met up with Janine and Mehdi on September 8th for a London engagement session.
These two dentists first met in 2015 at a homeless charity called a Crisis at Christmas. They were providing dental care for those who found themselves homeless over the holidays. Since then, they have volunteered together every year!
Mehdi proposed on Janine’s birthday after they had been away together on holiday on a canal boat and then to Seville. When they got back to London, they went on a late-night walk, because Mehdi said he wasn’t feeling well and needed fresh air. While they were out, they went to Tower Bridge, one of their favourite spots. There, Mehdi got down on one knee at the big red propeller—where they first held hands on their first date!
The ring Mehdi used to propose was also significant. It was Jan’s mum’s engagement ring. He had replaced the diamond that was lost from the setting! The ring symbolises the approval of Jan’s mum and late father.
Janine and Medhi’s London Engagement Session
Now, the two of them are preparing for their wedding and are selling the London flat where they have lived for several years. Because both the flat and the surrounding markets and landmarks have such meaning for them, it seemed like the perfect place for an engagement session. The Maltby Street Market has so much charm and hustle and bustle that it’s hard not to get engrossed into all that it has to offer, and the Lassco Bar in particular is one of their favourite places to visit. Sessions like this are always better when there is this kind of personal connection.
It was so fun to follow along with these two as they minced around Maltby Street market. Watching them visit their favourite places and recall different moments in their lives was truly special. It was also fun to hear them talk about their upcoming wedding at The Pumping House in Ollerton. They try to face all the stresses of planning their Anglo-Person dream wedding by laughing together—which is the perfect way to approach wedding planning!
