Lauren and Rose were married on February 16 with a ceremony and reception at West Mill in Darley Abbey.
Lauren and Rose’s West Mill Wedding Day
Love wins. That’s what the theme of the day was at Lauren and Rose’s gorgeous wedding. These two were so very much in love, and it was evident to everyone around them. In fact, Lauren said it was like that from the moment the two brides first met. A once in a lifetime love. Their love story moved at 100mph because right from the very start, they knew it was forever. Rose and Lauren knew their love was something special. And even though Rose had stated hundreds of times she wouldn’t be the one to propose… after a manic day of moving into their new house, Rose popped the question.
While Lauren and Rose originally thought they would wait for their wedding, as luck would have it, they stumbled upon the West Mill before it was opening. This Darley Abbey venue was only a building site when the brides first visited, but they immediately knew they had to get married there! These two fell in love, booked straight away, and couldn’t wait to get planning.
And it’s not surprising in the slightest! West Mill was originally a cotton spinning mill but has been lovingly and impeccably restored back to life. With barrel-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, cast iron beams and columns, this venue is a wedding photographer’s dream! Not only that, but it’s close to the gorgeous waterfalls of the weir. The staff, food and service were excellent. It was a treat to photograph this West Mill wedding.

I was so impressed by the way Lauren and Rose planned out their wedding day. There were so many details that were unique to them. For an example, the brides walked down the aisle to a song recoded by Rose. It was simply amazing! Later, they had the most incredible saxophone player for the day and The Motown Gold Band played live at the reception. Paul Martyn was unbelievable on the saxophone. Every single person raved about him, he was so talented! It was one big party, celebrating these wonderful women and celebrating love. After becoming Mrs. & Mrs., the brides and their friends and family danced the night away into the early hours.
Since Lauren and Rose were both a little camera shy, I worked with them to accommodate their wedding photography desires. As such, there are not as many couple photos, but it was easy to capture their love and the feeling of their wedding day while honouring their wishes. It was wonderful to let the day happen, and I was so pleased to be a part of their beautiful day.
Lauren had this advice to share with other brides:
“You can plan and plan but actually if you’ve got all the people you love in one place you could do anything and it would still be an incredible day. Just make sure your day is as you as it can possibly be and don’t do anything just to make other people happy.”
Lauren and Rose, thank you so much for asking me to be your wedding photographer. It was such a pleasure to be a part of your well-deserved happy ending.
